The International Defence & Aid Fund (President: Canon L. John Collins) has the following objects: (i) to aid, defend and rehabilitate the victims of unjust legislation and oppressive and arbitrary procedures; (ii) to support their families and dependants; (iii) to keep the conscience of the world alive to the issues at stake.

Focus is published by the Fund to inform international opinion about repression in Southern Africa, and in support of the call for the release of all political prisoners in South Africa, Namibia and Rhodesia (Zimbabwe). Material can be freely quoted or reproduced.

PHOTOGRAPHS These pictures come from a large collection of photographs depicting the events of Soweto and the 1976 uprising in South Africa assembled by IDAF Publications Department. An exhibition, Soweto and the Uprising of 1976 in South Africa, was mounted at the Africa Centre in London during the first week in March, and is also on view at the United Nations Building in New York from 21st March as part of the commemoration of the Sharpeville anniversary.
