The 1977 Annual Conference of the International Defence and Aid Fund for Southern Africa was held in Geneva from 6-8 May at the invitation of the Swiss affiliated committee, the Commission de Parrainage Scolaire. The Conference was welcomed at a civic reception by the Conseil d'Etat of the Republic and Canton of Geneva, and the Conseil Administratif of the City.
Delegates present included representatives from IDAF affiliates in Sweden, Britain, Ireland, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and the United States. Reports from National Committees in eight countries (the above plus Australia and New Zealand) were discussed and administrative measures approved to enable the Fund to respond quickly and effectively to the growing demands of the Southern African situation.
Ms. Nkosazana Dlamini, vice-president of the South African Students Organisation, addressed the Conference.
The Conference re-elected Canon L. John Collins as President of the Fund, and Dean Gunnar Helander (Sweden), Mr. Kader Asmal (Ireland) and Mr. Gilbert Rist (Switzerland) as Vice Presidents.
