Edith MBALA (52) a switchboard operator from Daveyton was sentenced to three years imprisonment for furthering the aims of the banned African National Congress in Johannesburg Regional Court on 1 March.
She was convicted of photocopying a pamphlet entitled "Amandla Soweto" with the object of distributing it a few weeks after the township disturbances began in June. The pamphlet was said to be issued by the ANC and to describe the white government as murderer of innocent people.
