New bans reported recently are: * Mrs Oshadi PHAKATHI, regional director of the Christian Institute in the Transvaal and national president of the SA YWCA, banned for five years on 24 March. Her ban restricts her to Pretoria and Mamelodi township and forbids all participation in Christian Institute affairs, as well as contact with the Black Parents' Association, SASO, South African Students' Movement (SASM) and the BPC. Mrs Phakathi was held in preventive detention under the Internal Security Act from August to December last year. Both the Christian Institute and the YWCA protested at the banning order. After her banning order was served, Mrs. Phakati fled to Botswana with her young son. * Mrs Dimza PITYANA, formerly youth organiser for the SA Institute of Race Relations, banned for five years in April. She was detained from June to December last year. * Allan ADEREM, 23, a postgraduate student at the University of Cape Town, banned for five years on 25 March. His ban restricts him to Cape Town and Wynberg, and to stay at home from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
