The following sentences for sabotage convictions arising out of last year's disturbances have been reported in the press, making a total of over 90 such convictions.
14 February: Witbank Simon NKOSI (40) jailed for 16 years Richard NKOSI (29) jailed for 8 years Alpheus MALAZA (17) Amon MKHONZA (17) David MAGAGULA (17) all jailed for 5 years The charges arose out of arson attacks on sawmills and forestry in the Ermelo district. Simon Nkosi, described in court as a witchdoctor was said to have been the leader who incited the others to arson.
4 March: Springs Solomon RAKOS (20), John MSINGA (19), Ephraim MONGALA (18), Micel MBELE (19), Albert MAZIBUKO (18), Felix MPEKA (19) and Rossou NGONGO (18), all jailed for 5 years on charges arising out of stone-throwing and arson incidents in Duduza township, Nigel, on 18-21 June 1976.
17 March: Springs Two unnamed youths, both jailed for 5 years on charges of sabotage and incitement in connection with the burning of classrooms at Kagiso, Krugersdorp, on 27 July 1976.
