end January: Wankie The headmaster and three teachers from Lupote School in the Wankie TTL, northwestern Rhodesia, were all sentenced to prison terms on charges connected with the presence of guerillas in the area. DAVID NCUBE (32), headmaster, was gaoled for 12 years for failing to report guerillas to the authorities; FABIAN SIBELO received 20 years for recruiting and 15 years for failing to report and assisting guerillas, the sentences to run concurrently; SEBASTIAN DUBE (33) also received concurrent sentences of 12 and 15 years on the same grounds. EMILY SIBANDA (22), the third teacher, was sentenced to 8 years imprisonment for failing to report guerillas.
Four people from the Siabuwa TTL bordering on Lake Kariba, were gaoled at the same session of the Special Court: TIME NDHLOVU and MISHEK SIABOLE were both sentenced to 15 years for failing to report and assisting guerillas; SIAMUZA SIBANDA and SIANDEKE TSHUMA were sentenced to 12 and 8 years respectively for the same offences. They were alleged to have helped to carry a landmine to a road where it was later detonated by a security forces vehicle.
PHILEMON TSHUMA from the Kamativi area was sentenced to 15 years for failing to report and assisting guerillas, while JOHN MATHE from the Lukosi area was gaoled for 12 years for failing to report.
3 February: Beitbridge JOHN TOETANE was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment, JOSEPH NDAU to 8 years, and CHICEWO MJEDZI (alias CHIEF MTIBI) to 15 years, on conviction of failing to report the presence of guerillas.
