The trial of ten men accused of recruiting ANC members for military training continued in Pietermaritzburg. Further evidence was presented to the court detailing various assaults and tortures to which the accused and others had been subjected.

An expert on the effects of solitary confinement, Prof. L.J. West of California University, gave evidence on the effects of sleep and food deprivation, solitary confinement and "truth drugs". Prof. West told the court that various methods used to induce prisoners to give false evidence needed only a few days; chemicals existed that were more likely to get the truth out of people than any other method he said. These methods led to debility, dependency and dread, which were clearly recognisable in the evidence of both accused and witnesses in the trial.
