Two men, Tim JENKIN (29) and Steven LEE (26) have appeared in court on charges under the Terrorism Act in Cape Town. Steven Lee is a South African resident, who holds a British passport and dual nationality. He was a member of the TGWU when working in Britain. At the time of his arrest he was a post graduate student at the University of Cape Town. Tim Jenkin was working as a research associate at the University of the Western Cape's institute of social development. Originally they were detained under Section 6 of the Terrorism Act, together with two German students and two women. It was reported later in connection with the detentions in the Rand Daily Mail that Security Police considered they had made "a dramatic breakthrough in their investigations into a series of pamphlet bomb explosions in South Africa during 1976 and 1977". The case is expected to be heard in June.
