The Natal Law Society succeeded in having Kader Hassim, member of unity movement and attorney jailed under the Terrorism Act in 1972, struck off the roll of attorneys in February. Hassim was convicted of conspiracy to collect funds 'to finance a campaign to recruit persons to undergo political and military training' and was sentenced to eight years. He is currently on Robben Island. The Law Society's initial application was unsuccessful but on appeal the decision was reversed, despite argument on Hassim's behalf that he was a conscientious and capable attorney, well respected in the Profession.
