Two men, Solomon Mosutwa RAGATSI (26) and Victor Ronnie NKOSI (25) appeared in a Transvaal magistrates court at the end of March, charged under the Terrorism Act with attempting or consenting to undergo military training in Botswana with the object of endangering law and order in South Africa. The two men had pleaded not guilty. At a previous hearing the court was told that the two men were arrested at Zeerust on 20 September, 1977, allegedly en route to Botswana. Giving evidence for the State, a Zeerust security policeman, Constable Abraham Rantlohoa, denied a defence submission that statements had been obtained from the two accused with the use of "extreme violence". Ragatsi submitted that during interrogation in Zeerust a sack had been placed over his head, a tube up his nose and electric apparatus connected to his fingers, causing him shocks.
