On 28 August Rhodesian newspapers were banned from publishing any information about or statements by the Patriotic Front, under the terms of a 'D' Notice issued by the National Security Committee. The 'D' Notice system was introduced in April 1976 and contraventions carry penalties of up to 5 years imprisonment or R$10,000 fines, or both.
