The prohibition on outdoor public gatherings throughout the country which has been in force since June 1976 was extended for six months from October to March 1979 by the Minister of Justice. Exceptions to this ban must be expressly permitted by the Minister or a local magistrate.
Stricter restrictions apply to the central Cape Town area, where all public gatherings (except church services) in the open air are prohibited until 11 August 1980 by the Minister.
