"Probably you are expecting to be informed about what took place. Some figures do try to deceive the world and say there is a fair and proper election. You might have thought of it as fair since they announced a high percentage of voters. This is what happened.

"Before the election date all expected to be effective members of the banned ZAPU and ZANU were arrested and detained, although their parties were not existing. On what was called election days there were trucks to carry voters from one poll to another. That is, that few people who were willing to vote, voted being in Salisbury, then carried to vote being in Bulawayo, Umtali, Gwelo or Fort Victoria. One person could appear and cast the vote thrice or more. In the rural and compound areas soldiers went with trucks and enforced people to vote. Mobile polls were put to some areas and people enforced by gun point to vote.

"They used the industrialists to force employees to vote. Many (firms) in Bulawayo intimidated their employees by quitting them from work if they do not vote.

"Honestly if you were here you could see all that by yourself. I am not a man to exaggerate or else to oppose the truth. Honestly where is the fairness of the elections if all that is performed? We tried to meet international observers and journalists but all was neglected."
