A leaflet distributed by the security forces is a striking example of the kind of threatening propaganda used by the Smith regime to convince people of the necessity to vote. The leaflet, or rather, small poster, is written on one side in English and the other in the vernacular alongside pictures of the Rhodesian security forces:-

ZIPRA forces and Mujibas. If you go against the will of the People BASOPANI (Beware!), the people of Zimbabwe ARE going to vote in the one man one vote Majority Rule elections.

If you try to stop the people from voting you will be going against the will of the people and the Zimbabwe People's Army WILL kill you.

Listen well because this is your only warning.

The Zimbabwe People's Army is everywhere and if you try to stop the people from voting YOU will meet your death.

The powerful Army of the People of Zimbabwe is here to protect the people when they choose their Majority Rule Government in their one man one vote elections.

Underneath are a number of pictures of the "Zimbabwe People's Army", alias the Rhodesian security forces, showing a fighter jet, a paratrooper, an armoured car, a mounted unit of the Grey's Scouts and so on, with the captions:-

Look carefully at these pictures. They show you some of the soldiers and weapons of the People's army.

Zimbabwe is growing stronger every day.
