A group of 22 men and five women were reported arrested by BophuthaTswana security forces on or around 20 August, ostensibly for entering BophuthaTswana's western Tlhaping district without valid travel documents. (RDM 23.8.79)

Later reports said that the group were mainly SWAPO supporters and included SWAPO Secretary for Youth Johannes KONJORE, Karel GOWASEB and Johannes PAULUS. They were en route through BophuthaTswana to cross the border into Botswana.

The group were later deported to Namibia, where they were held in detention under Section Six of the Terrorism Act. A firm of lawyers confirmed that they had been called upon to defend the men.

The *Windhoek Observer* reported on 29 September that all 27 had been released. Mr Konjore said they would not be brought to trial either in Namibia or BophuthaTswana. (WA 29.8.79; WO 15/ 29.9.79)

Johannes Konjore is believed to have been detained under AG26, in the first half of November.
