Four executive members of the Soweto Students' League are appearing in the Kempton Park Circuit Court charged under the Terrorism Act, alternatively with sabotage, attempted murder, arson, malicious injury to property and public violence. The offences were alleged to have been committed between August and December 1978, and include an allegation of setting fire to a Soweto school, and an attempt to kill persons in the building.
Evidence was led about how youths threw stones at a black policeman after the funeral of Johannes Matsobane, who died while imprisoned on Robben Island in August 1978 (see FOCUS 19, p.5)
The accused are: Kedibone Christopher MATHABE (21), Collin Makgalo KOTU (23), Simon MASHIGO (19) and Elias MODIGA (19). (Post 25.10.79; RDM 26.10.79)
