Post reporter Thami MKHWANAZI (28) appeared together with eight Atteridgeville youths at a brief hearing in the Pretoria Regional Court on 26 October. The nine were not asked to plead and the case was postponed to 10 December. Appearing with Mr Mkhwanazi are Jeremiah Kgokong MATJALADI (23), Ronald Ephraim MAMOEPA (18), Lebogang MOKONE (18), Petrus Karel SENABE (22), Cornelius LEEUW (18), and an UNNAMED YOUTH (16).
They are charged under the Terrorism Act with encouraging several other people to leave the country to receive military training (RDM 27.10.79) Thami Mkhwanazi, who is secretary of the Pretoria branch of Wasa, was detained by the security police on 1 June. (see FOCUS 24 p.5)
