A banned man, Dr. C.F. Beyers NAUDE, former director of the banned Christian Institute, was refused permission to travel to Europe in October to receive a human rights award.

He had been invited to Vienna by the Dr. Bruno-Kreisky Foundation to receive an award "for his unending efforts towards the reconciliation of the races in South Africa". He was also refused permission to travel to Belgium later in the year to address the Flemish Art and Cultural Organisation in Brussels.

The Minister of Justice and of the Interior, A.L. Schlebusch, turned down his application for a passport or travel document. (RDM 19.10.79)
