- Nontsikelelo Albertina SISULU, who has been banned since 1964, was served with a two-year banning removal order on 31 July.
Albertina Sisulu, a former leader in the ANC Women's League and the South African Women's Federation, is the wife of Walter Sisulu, NAC leader serving a life sentence on Robben Island. (GN 2.8.79)
- Sedick ISAACS, former Robben Island prisoner who was released in 1977 and served with a two-year banning order, had his banning order extended for a further five years in early October. Isaacs, of Salt River, has been confined to the magisterial district of Cape Town. He served twelve years and nine months on Robben Island for activities in support of the Unity Movement. (see FOCUS 14 p.8.) He obtained a master of science degree while imprisoned, and had applied for a passport to enable him to study for a doctorate in West Germany, but the government refused the application. He has found difficulty getting a job, and when he applied for a permit to be present for an interview in Tygerberg for a job at the Institute of Biostatics, the permit was refused. He has recently been self-employed, selling eggs and installing burglar alarms.
On 12 September he was acquitted in a Cape Town Regional Court on a charge of breaking his banning order by allegedly being in Mowbray – 490 metres out of the magisterial district of Cape Town (CT 8.10.79)
- Siegfried BHENGU, former ANC political prisoner, had his ban renewed for five years at the beginning of October. His address is given as Mazambanenii Nkandla, Natal. (RDM 27.10.79) (see FOCUS 14 p.8.)
