The SWA Territory Force (established by South Africa in 1980 as the basis of an "independent" army for Namibia) has been allocated approximately 850 hectares of land for the erection of its military headquarters in Namibia. The site is in an area south of Windhoek and extends over 17 per cent of the remaining land suitable for development and the further expansion of the capital, in the Windhoek basin.
The military sick bay of the SWA Territory Force, previously based in Suiderhof, has been transferred to the State Hospital in Windhoek and the Katutura Hospital. Col G.P. Booyen, Officer Commanding the Medical Command in Namibia, said that the buildings and facilities at Suiderhof could no longer fulfil the needs of the unit.
