A 30-year-old woman was found dead in her cell at the Windhoek Magistrates Court on 5 March, after being arrested and detained by the police a number of weeks previously. Her name was not given.
The woman was one of about 200 people arrested in a police raid against 'vagrancy' in the Katutura Single Quarters. Most of the detainees were held on charges of trespassing. An inquest was due to be held on the deceased, despite police opinion that she might have died from natural causes.
