The report of an official investigation into detention without trial in Namibia, launched in 1982 under the leadership of the Officer Commanding the SWATF General Charles Lloyd, has been submitted to the Administrator-General's office. Decisions on its findings are due to be taken 'at a later stage'.
The deaths of two detainees in Kavango in November last year prompted international protests and demands by the Namibian Bar Council for an urgent judicial commission of inquiry into security laws and practices.
Police files on the deaths of the two detainees, Jonah Hamukwaya and Kadumu Katanga, have been handed to the Commissioner of the SWA Police, Maj-Gen Dolf Gouws, for eventual submission to the Attorney-General of Namibia.
