The following are the names of a number of political prisoners known to have been released since late March.
- Guy BERGER (26) on 26 March. Sentenced to four years on 16 March 1981 for ANC membership and possessing banned publications. Sentence halved on appeal 12 March 1982.
- Weaver Seralo MAGCAYE on 31 March. Sentenced on 20 March 1981 to three and a half years - reduced to two years on appeal - for refusing to give state evidence.
- Prema NAIDOO (37) and Shirish NANA-BHAI on 31 March. Sentenced to three years - two years suspended - on 1 April 1982 for assisting an escaped ANC political prisoner.
- Sechaba Dan MONTSITSI (27) on 9 May. Sentenced to four years for sedition in 1979.
- Raymond Sorrel SUTTNER (37) on 11 May. Sentenced to seven and a half years in 1975 for ANC activities.
- Jeremy CRONIN (33) on 23 May - four months early. Sentenced to seven years in September 1976 for ANC activities.
- Thami MAZWAI, Thabo NDABENI, Solomon SELANI, Carter SELEKE, Sipho SOMACELE were all released on 11 August. They were sentenced in February 1982 for refusing to testify for the state.
- Curnick NDLOVHU (50) at end of September. Sentenced to 20 years in February 1964.
