On 15 October Babalazi BULUNGA, a former president of the Students Representative Council at the University of Swaziland, was detained by South African police at the Oshoek border post after being deported from Swaziland. A member of Swaziland's Supreme National Council said that Bulunga was deported for his 'activities in the sugar industry' and not 'because of his ANC links'. Swazi authorities denied that Bulunga was a Swazi citizen. However, other sources said that he was the son of a Swazi migrant worker. Bulunga was previously detained in January 1982 and acquitted later that year on charges of furthering the aims of the ANC.
Shortly after Bulunga's detention South African police announced the detention of an alleged ANC guerilla as he tried to leave the country for Swaziland. He was said to be carrying a Swazi passport. Police subsequently detained an alleged woman guerilla and captured arms and ammunition. No names were revealed.
