A former attorney from Durban, Bulelane NGCUKA (31), who refused to testify in the trial of three ANC members, was released from Pollsmoor Prison in August after serving a three-year sentence. Ngcuka was one of five people convicted under the Criminal Procedure Act for refusing to give evidence in the trial of Maqubela, Maqhutyana and Gaba who were convicted of treason in September 1982.
A PAC member who served 22 years on Robben Island for sabotage in connection with an attack on the King William's Town police station in 1963, was released in September. Hector NTSHANYANA (52), from Zwelitsha, was reported to have had difficulty on his release in finding out whether he would be permitted to return to his home in Zwelitsha.
