On 9 September the emergency regulation requiring news agency journalists to register with the authorities was repealed. However, when making the announcement the Minister of Home Affairs added that the question of registration was still being investigated ‘since it remains a matter of grave concern for the government.’ The regulation was originally introduced in June under the renewed State of Emergency and required registration by 31 July. It was suspended on 28 July after confusion over who was covered by the regulation. At that time, the Minister said the decision had been taken because of ‘practical considerations’.
